Digital DVIR: Voice-Guided Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections
FMCSA requires every commercial vehicle driver to complete a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) before and after each trip. Yet according to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), 22% of roadside inspections result in vehicle out-of-service violations — many of which would have been caught by a thorough pre-trip. Paper DVIR forms are easy to skip, easy to fake, and easy to lose. TRU LOAD replaces paper with a voice-guided digital inspection that takes under 5 minutes, stores results digitally, and flags critical defects immediately.

TRU LOAD walks you through each item. Say “pass,” “fail,” or “N/A.” Failed items prompt you for a defect description and optional photo.
How TRU LOAD DVIR Works
Say “Hey Tru Load, start pre-trip inspection”
Activates the voice-guided DVIR. Works pre-trip or post-trip. TRU LOAD auto-selects the correct vehicle from your profile and timestamps the start.
Walk Around Your Truck and Respond
TRU LOAD calls out each item: “Air Compressor — pass, fail, or not applicable?” You respond as you inspect. Failed items get a follow-up: “Describe the defect.” Add a photo if needed.
Digital Signature and Storage
At completion, TRU LOAD reads back any defects found and asks for confirmation. Your digital signature is applied automatically. The DVIR is stored securely for 12+ months and accessible from your dashboard anytime.
Critical Defect Alerts
If you report a critical defect (brakes, steering, tires, lights, coupling), TRU LOAD immediately alerts your fleet manager and flags the vehicle. The system ensures safety-critical items are never overlooked.

Is a digital DVIR accepted by FMCSA?+
Yes. FMCSA regulation 49 CFR 396.11 requires drivers to complete a DVIR but does not mandate a specific format. Digital DVIRs are fully accepted as long as they capture all required information: vehicle identification, inspection items, defects found, driver signature, and date. TRU LOAD's digital DVIR meets all these requirements.
How does the voice-guided inspection work?+
TRU LOAD walks you through each of the 19 inspection items one at a time. It says "Air Compressor — pass, fail, or not applicable?" You respond with voice. If you say "fail," it asks for a description of the defect. The entire inspection takes 3-5 minutes with voice, compared to 5-10 minutes with paper.
What happens when I report a critical defect?+
If you report a defect on a critical item (brakes, steering, tires, lights, coupling devices), TRU LOAD immediately flags it as a critical safety defect. It alerts your fleet manager (if applicable) and marks the vehicle as requiring repair before operation, per FMCSA regulations.
How long are DVIR records stored?+
TRU LOAD stores all DVIR records for 12 months, which exceeds the FMCSA requirement of 3 months for the current vehicle and 12 months for the carrier. Records are accessible anytime from your dashboard and can be exported for audits or inspections.
Can I add photos to my DVIR?+
Yes. When you report a defect, TRU LOAD prompts you to add a photo. You can snap a picture of the defect which is attached to the DVIR record. This is invaluable for documenting pre-existing damage, showing repair shops what needs fixing, and protecting yourself from liability.
